"[...] this is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God."
2 Nephi 31:21

Gospel literally means, "good news". It is the way we come to Christ and shows us how to live a good, meaningful life. It involves faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit and enduring to the end. Through the gospel we benefit from the Atonement, which allows us to be cleansed, forgiven and saved.

Jesus Christ is at the heart of the gospel. The first principle of the gospel is faith in Him. When we pray, read the scriptures, and keep His commandments, our faith grows. We trust Him and believe that He is the Son of God, our Saviour.

When our faith in Jesus Christ grows, we will have the desire to change, or in other words, to repent. Repentance is the process of turning away from sin and turning to God. Repentance is not a punishment, but a path to a happy life in harmony with God. Jesus Christ made it possible for us to repent and experience happiness, joy and peace.

When we repent, our desire to become more like Jesus Christ increases. He is our perfect example and has shown us the way through His baptism. Baptism is a covenant, or a promise, with God. When we are baptised by immersion, our past sins are washed away and forgiven through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. After baptism, we receive the sacrament each week, this is a renewal of our baptismal covenant and a means of remembering Jesus Christ.

Baptism is not valid without receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost. This gift is conferred by worthy holder of the priesthood by the laying on of hands, which confirms us as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After confirmation, we have the privilege of always having the Holy Spirit with us, as long as we are faithful. This means that we can receive individual divine guidance and comfort. If we are faithful, we can experience this blessing for the rest of our lives.

When we are baptised, we are on the path back to God, but we must have faith, repent when we make mistakes, and partake of the sacrament each week to renew our covenants. We promise to keep His commandments, including loving and serving others. We strive to become better disciples of Jesus Christ, and through this we can receive the blessings of happiness, joy and peace that are promised to us. Through the gospel of Jesus Christ, families and individuals can be blessed with joy that lasts forever.
